When people hear the term halal food, many may think, “It sounds complicated,” or “It probably doesn’t relate to us.” However, with the recent increase in inbound tourism and the growing diversity of dietary needs within Japan, the importance of halal compliance is steadily rising.

In this seminar, we will gently guide you through the current demand and future outlook for halal food in Japan. We'll explore how to incorporate inbound demand into your business strategy, and introduce key points and challenges to be aware of when importing or handling halal products—using real-life examples.

This session will offer both practical tips for the field and insights into potential business opportunities.

This session will also share the Malaysian experience and global trends on halal products and services.

1994: Graduated from the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad (Pakistan), majoring in Food Science

1994–1996: Worked as a food factory manager

1996–1999: Graduated from the University of Tokyo, Faculty of Agriculture, specializing in Food Science

Certified inspector and evaluator for organic JAS auditing bodies in Japan

Since 2010: Serving as a board member of the Japan Asia Halal Association (JAHA), a halal certification organization

16 years in Halal Development Corporation (HDC) with past experience in retail and airline industry. Invited speakers/panelists on halal subject at several international events either physical presence or webinar. Represent HDC on international halal matters.

Japanese cuisine, including sushi, continues to attract global attention for its delicate flavors, beautiful presentation, health-conscious nature, and sustainability. This lecture explores the appeal of Japanese food, its connection to inbound tourism, and the potential for export and overseas expansion. It will also touch on emerging trends such as vegan adaptation and digital utilization, offering a forward-looking perspective on the future of Japanese cuisine.

<Speaker Profile>

Joined the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) in 1998.
Has served in various roles within the Production Bureau, Management Improvement Bureau, and Food Industry Affairs Bureau, and was also seconded to institutions such as the Japan Finance Corporation and the Ehime Prefectural Government.
Previously served as Director of the Information Analysis Office in the Minister's Secretariat.
Assumed current position in July 2024.
